The Making of a Card by Dee

Designed by Sprytebyrd on Tuesday, March 06, 2012

Good Morning!!  Today is my special day to post something on our Meljen's Design Team and Challenge blog, so I've decided to make a card with you!  Grab a cup of java and settle in, this is going to be fun!

Everyone has their own way of composing a card.  Do you select the paper first, or color the image first?  Do you play it by ear or follow a sketch?  Do you look up the challenges and make it fit or make what feels right and enter the challenges later?

Personally, I like to do whatever comes to me at the time.  Today, I went downstairs to my craft room (one of these days, I'll give you a tour!) and sat at my desk.  My desk is an old dining room table that I got in the Ikea scratch and dent section many years ago and I love it!  It's huge and has room to keep most of the things that I use often within arms reach.  So, I sit at my desk and I look around... then I grab an image.  My Meljen's Designs images are all in a folder right next to my desk, so they are always handy and ready for me!

Today I grabbed Meljen's Designs "Bulldog's Bear", "Paw Print Frame" and some doggie sentiments that I had typed up some time ago.  Unfortunately, "Paw Print Frame" ended up waiting for another day.

Sometimes I will look for paper and color the image to match, and sometimes I will just color the image and find paper later.  That's what I did today, I was coloring a dog, so I figured I was pretty safe with just coloring him in dog colors.

Once he was mostly colored, I pulled out some paper that I wanted to use, so that I could decide what color I wanted his teddy bear to be.  I decided to pull the blue out of the paper.

Now, it's time to figure out shapes and placement.  I pulled out my Nestie Binder and started flipping through all of my sets, finally deciding on the octagon.

I cut out the bulldog on my Cuttlebug, ran it through again to give it the embossed edge and sponged some ink around him before removing the die.  I think I need some ribbon....

Ah, that's better, some pretty blue ribbon.  Now that I have everything cut out and ready it's time for assembly!

Gather the adhesives!!  I've got some dimensionals, my ATG gun and some scor-tape here, but I also used some glue dots for the bow.

Here are those glue dots, ready to add some blue baubles.  I also added some glitter with my Gelly Roll pen on the signature Meljen's doodles.

Everytime I make a card and show my Hubby, he opens it up looking for something on the inside, so I always add a little something.  Hmmm...

Sometimes I can't stop adding things...

And that's it!  Once I'm done, I bring the card upstairs, set it up on a piece of white posterboard on the dining room table and snap a photo!

I hope you enjoyed joining me on my card making journey today!  I had a lot of fun making this card, and taking photos along the way!

Have a wonderful day and I'll be seeing you again soon!

Hugs,
Dee
