Meljen's Challenge #51

Designed by Sprytebyrd on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 5 stamps of approval
Time for a fun new challenge at Meljen's Designs!

This week we are challenging you to use your PUNCHES!  And, we've got a super cute, hip and happenin' new release for ya, too!

A friend of mine taught me this tip about using a standard old fashioned hole punch to "alter" the look of a scallop circle punch.  It looks really cool and I thought it went well with this week's new Cell Phone image.  I also used this technique on the border of my image.  So simple and fun!

This week's new images are just cool!  And, this girl makes me think of my little girl!  Although, her skirts aren't quite this short, but she sure does love talking on the phone!  And she's only 6 years old!  She has her little play phones, and she's always telling me that she's calling me, so I have to grab my phone and have a conversation with her from across the room!  LOL!

Here are the rest of the images that are being released today:
Meljens Designs March 24th Release Display

FUN!  They are all available right now at Whimsy Stamps!

I hope you play along with us this week!  I'd love to learn more fun tips on using punches!

I'd like to enter this card into the challenges at:
Freshly Brewed - 2 or more embellies (I got 9 of 'em, on my phone!)
The Crafty Pad - Use a Digi
Spoonful of Sugar - Ribbon and Pearls
Cupcake Craft Challenges - Monochromatic
Happy Stamping!

Hello Cutie #2

Designed by Sprytebyrd on Sunday, March 20, 2011 4 stamps of approval
Time for our 2nd challenge at Hello Cutie Challenges!

Since it's the 2nd challenge and it's the 2nd half of the month, it's time for a PHOTO inspiration!

This week, I stuck to my favorite art medium... PAPER!  As soon as I saw this photo, I had an idea for a card that I thought would look great!  I guess that's what a photo inspiration is supposed to do, right?  Inspired, I was!

Here's what I created --

And, here's our Inspiration photo --

I just loved the beadboard wall, so I duplicated that (in my way) with an assortment of white embossed papers.  I needed something at the top to soften the edges of my embossed strips, so I added the pink trim.  Then, due to a lack of butterflies, I used some gorgeous dragonfly stickers that I've had forever!  Since it's a card, it needed a sentiment of course, and I thought Fabulous was pretty perfect!

I hope you like it and I hope you are inspired as well!!

You can still enter our color challenge as well!  Because it was our very first challenge, it's open for a week longer than normal!

Remember, at Hello Cutie, we'll take ANY craft!!  Sew it, bead it, stamp it, scrap it, crochet it, knit it, decoupage it, sculpt it, paint it... I could go on and on and on!  As long as it's CUTE and fits our challenge, we wanna see it!!  Have Fun and be CUTE!

I'd like to enter this card into the challenge at
Paper Sundaes - Embossing
Sentimental Sundays - Sentimental
Cupcake Craft - Up in the Air

Stamptacular Sunday #103

You talkin' to me?  YOU talkin' to ME?

Yea, I'm talkin' to YOU!!  Come on over to Stamptacular this week and show us your sentiments!  We are challenging you to make your sentiment the main image on your card or project this week!

Sentiment from Create with TLC

This card was SO much fun!  I really wanted to make sure to get an image from our awesome sponsor, THE PAPER SHELTER in there, so I colored up this awesome pirate and layered him onto the center of my card.  He just looks like he's having a blast!  Aaarr!

THE PAPER SHELTER is offering up a $10 gift certificate to our winner this week
AND, SIMON SAYS STAMP is also sponsoring us this week with a prize of a $20 gift certificate!
What a wonderful week to play along!

So come on, join the fun and show us your sentiments!  Talk to me!  :)  I can't wait to see your take on our challenge!

Card Makin' Mamas #17

Designed by Sprytebyrd on Friday, March 18, 2011 1 stamps of approval
Karen's Doodles is sponsoring us at Card Makin' Mamas this week!  And what better challenge for them to sponsor than ANIMALS??  Karen has some super cute animals to use and has offered up an image to each of the Design Team members this week - Thank You!

I chose to use Ollie and his new gal, Olga for my card, and this time I actually colored them up as Ostriches instead of Flamingoes!  I don't know why, but I ALWAYS reach for my pink markers when I color these images!!  But, I think they look awesome in Ostrich colors, too!!

This card is a little different for me... there's very little layering, the image isn't matted and I cut out almost everything!  The grass is actually part of the paper, the clouds are too, but I cut them out and glued them back on to add dimension.. of course I HAD to use my Nesties and cut out some hearts!  And, I actually "fussy-cut" the lovebirds instead of using Nesties or keeping them square.  All in all, I like the effect and think it's a really cute card!  If I say so myself, that is!  I hope you like it, too!

This cards wants to play along in the Keep It Simple challenge at Paper Sundaes this week :)

Mermaid ATC's

Designed by Sprytebyrd on Thursday, March 17, 2011 1 stamps of approval
So, my Mom has been making ATC's lately (Artist Trading Cards) and has kinda gotten me into making them too, although, I have a lot of catching up to do!!  She's made so many by now and I think I've done... 8?  Hahaha!  I guess since I got her into cardmaking and scrapbooking to begin with, it's only fair that she get me into something new, too, right?

Well, she and I are looking forward to going to the Heirloom Rubber Stamp Expo in Portland, Oregon next weekend and they have an ATC contest and swap!  This year's contest theme is Mystical Mermaids, so I decided to make up a set of ATC's to enter into the contest - wish me luck!!  I am also making a few ATC's to take with me to swap, but I don't know how many I'll end up having.. it's still such a small canvas for me to get used to working on!

Here are my Mystical Mermaids - using the Mermaid digi from Karen's Doodles

I kept them very similar, to make them more of a set, but of course, not identical.  I also needed them to reflect my style of "art", so I kept them simple, but they had to have shimmer, glitter, sparkle and pearls!  I really like how they turned out!

Some ATC's are wild, some are simple... some are odd, some are cute... some are colorful, some are monochromatic... it all depends on the artist that creates them and their style of art.  I think these show off my style pretty well.  Simple, colorful, cute and sparkley!

I hope you like them and I hope they do well in the contest next weekend!  Anyone else going to the show in Portland?  I'd love to swap with you!  :)

I'd love to enter these into the challenge at Digital Tuesday Challenges - It's a Magical World

Happy Green Beer Day!

Designed by Sprytebyrd on Sunday, March 13, 2011 4 stamps of approval
Well, according to my British Husband... green beer on St. Patrick's Day is an American adaptation.. he says you won't ever find a green beer in Ireland (or England)!

Ok then... if he doesn't want my green beer, then I'll have to drink it myself!!

Image: Meljen's Designs - "Irish Brew"

Coloring this image was a lot of fun!  I was sitting at the dining room table, coloring away and my little Emily came over to join me and asked if she could color, too.. so I gave her a few images to play with.  While I was working on this mug, I kept hearing her giggle next to me, she thought it was SO FUNNY that my beer was green!!  She's a silly girl :)

This week's challenge at Meljen's Designs is to use the color GREEN and I hope that my beer has inspired you to play along with us!

I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges as well:

Sentimental Sundays - Let's Go Green!
Paper Sundaes - Keep It Simple
If the shoe fits... - St. Pat's Day

SSC #102 - Sketch Time!

Designed by Sprytebyrd on Sunday, March 13, 2011 1 stamps of approval
Time for another fun Sketch challenge at Stamptacular Sunday!

This past week was my parents wedding anniversary, so I used our sketch to create a fun card to send them.. which, of course was mailed late, because, well.. it's me!  It IS in the mail, but they will most likely see this post before they see the real card!!

I had some fun with my glittery red paper and might have gone a little overboard on the hearts, but, it's such a FUN card!  I only colored the one little section for Anniversary, and I had to keep moving the arrow back into place, because Emily kept playing with my card!!

Hope you get a chance to join in our sketch challenge this week!  Our sponsor is

with a $25 Gift Certificate

Have FUN!

Stamptacular Sunday #101

Designed by Sprytebyrd on Sunday, March 06, 2011 1 stamps of approval
Hi!!  It's the start of a brand new week and of course a brand new challenge at Stamptacular Sunday!

This week, our challenge theme is

You Lucky Duck!!

For this weeks challenge you will create a GOOD LUCK, CONGRATULATIONS or BEST WISHES card or project! Can’t get any easier than this! …Oh, and don’t forget to STAMP! Afterall, we don’t call this STAMPtacular Sunday for nothing!

This challenge theme makes me think of a friend of my daughters who always says "You Lucky!!"  :)

Our sponsors this week are
Whimsy Stamps: giving a $15 gift certificate
The Stamping Boutique: giving 5 free digis

Thanks to our amazing sponsors!!

My card is a simple one, but I really like how it turned out!  I saw a card similar to this when I was in Seattle this past weekend, and I just had to buy the shamrock punch and the glittery paper so that I could make one, too!  I layered the glitter square, to add a bit more sparkle, but the one that I saw was just the single glitter shamrock.  I also bought a different stamp to go with it, but it didn't quite fit the challenge, so you'll see that stamp on another creation :)  Hope you like it!

I can't wait to see your Lucky creations this week!!

Have Fun and Good Luck!
